Pobla de Massaluca

La Pobla de Massaluca, 363 meters above sea level, is the village of Terra Alta closest to the Riba-roja swamp, where the camp is located. It is a small town with around 400 habitants, well known for its excellent olive oil and quality wines. Almonds are also a typical product, you realize when you get close to the village which is surrounded by almond trees.

If you want to visit it, from september (wine production) to november (oil production) is a good time. Those days the cooperativa agrícola Caterra(cellar) receive the fruits daily so you can see the initial process of this production. You also have a small shop where you can buy all these typical products. But also, if you can not visit it, you can buy some of the products in our shop.

The "Almond fair" by the end of August is also a good time to visit the town and buy typical products and handicrafts.

The rest of the year is very interesting walking through its narrow streets, plenty of stone constructions built in a traditional way; enjoy breathtaking views from the lookout, a walk to the chapel of Santa Madrona or a quick visit to the church of "Sant Antoni".

Once in Fayón, coal keep its way by train. After that, those boats were back to Mequinenza using strings and animals.

More recently, with the construction of Mequinenza dam (1966) and Riba-roja dam (1967) all people in Fayón and Mequinenza were relocated and their houses were rebuilt, it was a dramatic episode for all these people.

But one of the most characteristic points of this town, is the Mequinenza castle. Nowadays the castle is owned by Endesa. Information to visit the castle of Mequinenza.
